Andrew Patterson

This morning a well known man named Andrew Patterson. Every year he comes to our school. But he came today to talk to all the year 8 students at Pt. England school because the year 7’s went to a school trip to Rainbows End. He came to talk about college.

He handed out pieces of paper to everyone. On the paper there was a riddle. Everyone was trying to find out the answer and most people thought that it was your brain. Well, they were wrong. The answer was your habits. Good and bad.

He showed us another two pieces of paper, with words like Relaxation, we all had to put our hands up and think about things that relaxed us, there were other ones too.
We watched some clips and films. They also showed us one clip that was a boy who was an inspirational speaker.

Time flied by and it was an end of Andrew Patterson’s Speach.

Paris and their supporters

Last week, Paris got hit by a terrifying tragedy. Men from ISIS made a terrorist attack and killed 129 innocent civilians. Sadly the people involved with ISIS told the people in Paris to turn off the lights on the Eiffel tower. They were all scared for their lives so people from other countries turned on lights from their statues and buildings. eifel.jpg

They were very brave to support Paris and turned their lights on. A week later Paris said they had enough of being scared and said enough is enough so they joined in to the other countries and they turned their on lights back on. They were also very brave to turn their lights on.

Manaiakalani film festival

Last Wednesday everyone from Pt. England school went to sylvia park to watch other people make movies. We all loaded onto the bus and started to go. I sat next to one of my friends Quinlan on the bus. We both were extremely excited to watch the manaiakalani movies.

The bus stopped and we walked through sylvia park in our lines, we also walked past people from other schools who have already been to the earlier session. running up the staircase I though in my head “ WOW, I can’t remember the last time I went to the Manaiakalani film festival.” Quinlan and I both stayed in the same line so we could sit by each other, We entered the movie theater and saw that Ruapotaka school was already there. We both went to the back and found two seats.

As everyone settled down the movies all started to begin. About 20 minutes into the movies two people from our class went up on stage and began to speak. Their names were Mary and Rave. I then began to have an even bigger smile on my face knowing that our movie was going to play. Suddenly the movie began to play and Quinlan was not happy at all because she was the main character in the movie. It was the end of the movie and I was happy to say our movies was the best.

Other movies from other class and some from other schools began to play, I liked them all, but I still knew that our class movie was the best by far.
The Manaiakalani film festival had come to an end. Knowing that they were going to be the last manaiakalani movies I watch, I thought to myself “Man, these were the best movies out of all the movies I have watched, And that is saying a lot considering I have been here at Pt. England school for 8 years.

We all went back onto the bus and headed off back to school.

A time with friends!

RING!! the lunchtime bell went off, we all got into our P.E gear ready for our fabulous afternoon. We all put our shoes on and sat in our class lines in the street.

“Good afternoon senior block” Said Mrs. Tale’a “Good afternoon” said the students, “We are going to have a good afternoon today, we are doing the amazing race”. Everyone cheered from the top of their lungs with excitement. Mrs Tale’a gave us information on where we are going, who will be looking after our stations and when we are doing these events.

Walking in our little groups we made it to our first station. The station was called Pea Pipes. This event was basically when we had a little straws each, and on a table in front of us there was a plastic bowl of frozen peas. We each had a turn of sucking up a pea and running to the other side of the court were there was an empty bowl to drop the pea in.
10 minutes up the teachers looked to see who was the winner of this challenge. “And the winners are ..... Room 1. We were gutted that we didn’t win but for good sportsmanship we won ourselves 50 points. That cheered us up heaps.

It was then on for the next round.
We walked through the breeze and saw that there were 3 desks with bowls on each on them. Inside of the bowls there was Spaghetti, tomato sauce and fruit mixed up to make this big piece of blob. We sat down back into our group lines. Miss Peato was the teacher running this challenge. The first challenge was one person from each group had to stand up and eat 1 weetbix and whoever eats the whole thing first wins points. Brandon, one of the people in our group went up to take on the challenge. “3, 2, 1, GO!” Brandon broke it in half and crunched the weetbix in his hand, he then stuffed his face with one half of the weetbix. Once he finished that side he put the other side in his mouth. He opened his mouth and everyone saw that he had finished it first.
It was then onto the next challenge, 3 people from each group had to eat a whole mixing bowl of spaghetti, tomato sauce and fruit. The 3 people from our group were Mary, Lesieli and Brandon. I couldn’t bear to watch them eat that so I looked away.
But I didn't’ want to miss out on all the fun so I peeped and looked at what was happening,
I saw them sculling it all down their mouth, but room 1’s boys won 1st place.
So it was then onto the next challenge.

Out through the breeze and up the street we went into room 2 and saw Miss Clark with pieces of paper, I then realized this was going to be a brain teaser.
We sat in groups on desks, Miss Clark handed both groups a piece of paper and we had to solve 3 problems. 1st problem was a really easy one and the answer was a window, because the question asked us, what is use to see through walls. The other group was still figuring out the question. It was now onto question 2, this one was a bit trickier because it was a maths problem. We got the answer right. Miss Clark said we were the only group out of everyone who got this question right. I was really happy that we got it right. It was then onto the last question, The question stated, there was a boat on the dock, the water level was low but the water levels were getting higher, how deep was the boat under water was it if the water levels has risen. We also go this question right. The answer was “it was not possible because if the sea level had risen the boat would have risen too.”

We were onto our last challenge of the day and the challenge was called Photo Booth. We all had to dress up in funky clothes and see what group looked the funkiest. We weren't that funkey I must admit, but we were happy that we got to spend time as friends and overall had a good day.

Immersion Assembly

RING!, the bell goes off for us to go to class.
All of the year 7 and 8 students lined up in the street, ready to head off to the immersion assembly.

In our class lines we walk into the hall and sat down in our B.G lines (Boy, Girl lines.) sitting there quietly we waited for the other part of the school to come into the hall to start the immersion assembly.

“Kia Ora tamariki ma” said Mr. Burt, “Kia Ora Mr. Burt” said the rest of the school. Mr. Burt makes an introduction, then he said “Give it up for Team 1” One of the teachers came up and told everyone about how team 1 is going to the zoo this term. After that they started music and told us to get ready for karaoke. People from our school went up on stage and and started to sing the song “Roar” from Katy Perry. It was pretty cool that Marika won.

It was time for Team 2, they were studying Dinosaurs.
They did a little movie about Dinosaurs, it was all about the biggest and smallest Dinosaurs and the ones that fly and the ones who can swim.

Team 3 where creating their own Dinosaurs as well as the teachers.
They also made a movie like team 2. They were dancing around and being silly. They were all dressed up in cool costumes, looking like Dinosaurs, but funky looking ones.

It was team 4’s turn, they were really funny. They interviewed different people about where they were and what animals habitat they were in. It was funny because the people who were interviewed did not know where they where. It was so funny.

“Give it up for team 5” Mr. Burt shouted. We all clapped for team 5 because we are team 5 too. Instead of a movie the did a little act. Do you know the game show survivor? well, our teachers did a little show and were pretending to be on the game show survivor. I thought this was the best one yet.

Cross Country!

It was a sunny but windy afternoon, and we went ahead and had our school cross country, We all dressed up in our house colors and represented our houses.

The afternoon bell went off so we all lined up on the court. On the court there were chairs with our years and genders on it. Shivering and shaking we tried to sit in straight lines.

Miss Vaafusuaga and Mr Jacobson told us all that we are ready to start! I was terrified, the year 1 boys stood up in their lines and walked over to the starting line in their ready positions. Mr Burt had a little contraption that he smacked together to make a sound for the racers to know that it is time to start!

“Off they went!” sprinting through the field around the paddock and back up to the school. They finished in a flash. It was time for the girls to race. Hours go by and it was time for the year 8 boys, I wished my brother good luck as he went to the start line.

They stated race, and my brother was in coming last. I thought he was going to lose, but then the race ends and my brother comes first, I was so excited. A few minutes after that my brothers friend Iisa came second and his other friend Damien came third. I was proud of him.

A few more minutes flew past and it was time for the year 8 girls, I was excited but nervous at the same time, I had butterflies.
Mr Burt said “On your marks” we all stood in a straight line “Get set” one leg went back “GO!” we ran down the track , I was coming first for a while but them 2 people overtook me they were Kevine and Laila, I was trying my best to overtake them, another person went pass, then another.

We went through the second time and one more person went pass me. The finish time was about 100 meters away. The teachers told me to sprint. I sprinted my fastest. People were cheering for me as I ran past Rebekah, as I went through the finish line I was told I came 5th. I was pretty happy that I came on the top 10.

This Afternoon, we all had to sit on the hall for a special assembly.
I was the Duffy Assembly, when we all settled down Mrs Nua introduced a lady.

The ladies name was Tasha, she walked up in front of the whole assembly and said hi,
music began to to start and Tasha started to sing, she was so awesome at singing, I didn't really want her to stop!
She was that awesome. When her singing was over she told us a little story.
she said " When I was your age I said" "On Monday's I wanted to be a Vet and help animals, then on Tuesdays I want to be a Lawyer, on Wednesdays I wanted to be a Teacher on Thursdays I  wanted to be a Singer and on Fridays I wanted to be an Actress."

The she told us that she found out that she was allergic to animals.
Then we went back to class and got out two Duffy books.

I choose these two books ......

Most Memorable moment for 2015

Year 8 camp!_

This year the year 8 students got to go on an exciting camp.
the only down side of camp was the looong trip up to the camp site,
people were sick I was too.
But beside that it was the best camp I have ever gone to.

Once the bus stopped we saw our campsite, it was soo cool.
There was a volleyball net in the sand pit, there was a big building where our cabins were and there was the kitchen and the eating area.

From the bottom of the bus we took our bags and sleeping bags and went around looking for our cabins.
I was lucky my cabin mates and I, Sarah, Paige and Mary got to have the “Family Room” it was the best room out of them all, it almost looked luxury. Because the other people had to be in cabins with concrete floors and walls.

As soon as we set up our beds and put our things away we got to go outside and play around as it was sunny and hot. We just played around and looked at things, once we went to the back of the camp site there was a humongous zip line, everyone was stunned and excited to go on it.

Days went by of excitement and then it was our last day,
we packed our bags and put it on the bus.
It was time to go back to school and to our families.

Miss Universe 2015 - Top 20

Yesterday was the 1st of September and we had special visitors.
They where the top 20 Miss Universe New Zealand. They all had shirts that said "Keep calm and wear a Tiara" I thought that was cool. 3 of the girls stood up in front of us an gave a speech about themselves. One of them said they made a company of cleaning up New Zealand.

Once that was over all of the 20 girls split up in 5 different classes, in our class we had 4 girls called Hannah, Monique, Olivia and Sharne. They where all so kind,
On the table I was sitting on we were taking to a lovely lady named Olivia, she was blond and she was funny, he was taking about how bad she is at maths, she loves literacy more.

Sadly after a while I had to go home so I didn't get to be there for the rest.

How to prevent yourself from getting sick

How do you think you could prevent yourself from getting sick?
Well, you could do the basic such as washing your hands, having a shower, brushing your teeth and more.

You may not know this but, every single thing in the world has germs on it, you may not see it but it's there. People are getting sick everyday and it is easy to catch other people's germs. Protect yourself

The bulk of germs are hiding where you least expect. The top germ carriers in public places are: playground equipment, the phone receiver, ATMs, elevator buttons, escalator handrails, shopping cart handles, picnic tables, and Port-A-Potties.

So the next time you go out in public or just doing things around the house,

wash your hands and clean yourself thoroughly to prevent yourself from getting sick.

Approach - The young boy walked into the shop and approached the lady behind the counter.

Discriminating - The shopKeeper was discriminating him because she asked him for his nationality, and when she heard he was niuean she didn't let him have a job.

Gesture - So as he walked out of the shop, you could see by his gesture he was sad, as he held his head down.

Selfless - Because this boy was so selfless he didn't give up on looking for a part time job and getting a pay packet for his family.

Kiwi Kids News - Milo

A man named Shaun Harris who lives in taranaki bought 273 packets of Milo,
I know that sounds crazy and well to be fair it is, but it is not the Milo we use in our drink it is the one we use to, the original one i'm talking about.

Now that Nestle have decided to change their recipe he bought 143 kg's of Milo.
He said he would sell the lot on trade me to one lucky buyer for $4000. Sadly no one was willing to take this deal.

He says if no one is willing to take the offer he will sell them separately by Christmas time, and says it would make a good present.

Term 3 Week 3 - Maths

How Can We Save Money ?

How do you think we can save money ?
There's a lot of things you could do such as, Buy Cheaper things, if their is a Packet of pasta for, well I don't know maybe $4.00 and then you move down the ile a bit more and you see another packet for maybe $2.00 but the one that is $4.00 has a better cover would you get the Cheap one of the expensive one ?
Well, if you were me I would get the cheaper one that us $2.00 even if i not as pretty as the $4.00 one.

Beside that you can also save Power, you can do that by having showers that are short but useful, when you leave a room you can also turn off all of the lights that you are not using. If you have a T.V and you watch it there is an add, “ Genesis Energy” he give everyone watching tips on how to have power and trap heat in our house.

However, if you have parents or older siblings that live with you they could get a job to make pocket money to help you with money, Especially if you have a big family and you need money quick to feed and support everyone in your household family. When your family is going grocery shopping you could get the specials on at the supermarket.

ThinkBoard T3 W2

'Needs' vs 'Wants'

What is a Want ?

A ‘want’ is something that is normally expensive, that's why you want it because cool things are mostly expensive, you desire that things such as the new Nike kicks at the Adidas store or Footlocker, you want it and you spend all of your allowance on something that's not going to last long.
You think because it looks neat, cool or trendy that you need it to look good,
Truth is ... it won't, you're just paying the money to be or look cool, when there is another new thing coming out soon you regret purchasing that item .
Wanting something is more expensive than ‘Needing’ something if you think of it carefully.

What is a Need ?

A ‘Need’ is obviously something you need for everyday life,
Like food, Drinks, Money, Clothes etc...
You need clothes to wear because ... well I won't go there,
But you don't need labeled clothes, you could get clothes from the warehouse or Kmart, farmer and more places, you don’t need to go to the converse shop and get those expensive clothes, Money is another thing you really need, no, millions just enough to play your bills, groceries and clothes also shoes. Water is a ‘NEED’ but if you don't have money you can not pay your water bill and obviously you will get dehydrated and die of thirst. And have you noticed that things that you need are cheaper than buying things that you want. Such as if you go down to the Converse store and buy some cool chuck Taylor their prices are about $100 to $200 each, but if you go to the Warehouse and get a couple of cheap shoes that are only about $20 to $30 and they last quite a long time too.

Why is a need more important than a want ?

A ‘Need’ is more important that a ‘Want’ because the things you need help you to survive but the things you want won't help you to go anywhere,
Well, actually that's kind of not true,
Because things you want might be some things you need ,that's if you're not a needy person. Like if you ‘Want’ water it is also a ‘Need’ because you need water in your system to keep you healthy and alive.
This one is for woman...
If you want to go to the store where they have plants and you want it is actually a need to, do you know why, Scientist believe that if you do planting and gardening it is healthy for you because apparently we are made up of soil and water. Well, I dont know if that is 100% true.

ThinkBoard term 3 week 1 !

How Do People Receive And Spend Money ?

How Do People Receive And Spend Money ?
Money is a world wide currency that people use for various reasons,
Every country in the world has different looking money because of their queen governments and famous people are on their dollar notes.

How do I get money?
In the weekend I ask my dad if I can was the inside of his car normally he will say yes.
If he does say yes he gives me about $10 and he says If you can do the outside of my car you can get another $10.
If my parents do something wrong they would put some money in a jar and when it is full they give us the money in the jar.

My family knows be as a saver
I'm not the one to spend my money,
If I am feeling generous I get my brother and take him out for lunch.
Lee is what you call “ Stingy “ he never spends his money he asks other people to buy things for him.
I only spend my money on sweets but earn more money at the end of the week by more household chores.

To receive money you could go to a bank or your family or even if you are doing a fundraiser you could get money from stranger.

P.E.S should have uniform

I think that Pt England school should have uniform because it would be a popularity contest if we did not have a uniform.
By that I mean that if people couldn't afford fancy clothes people would be mocking them, saying things that would really upset that person,
also people would be buying expensive clothes wasting parents money.
It would be hard to find clothes for everyday of the week.

Clothes are a mission to clean if you do not have a washing machine and a dryer...
you would have to go to the dry cleaners everyday and wash your clothes.

But if you have  a uniform you would only have to wash your uniform once a week and you don't have to worry about what you have to wear the next day.
So I think that PES should have school uniform.

Imagine yourself without a uniform,
It would not be nice to do the different subjects at school,
like if you were wearing pants and a long sleeved shirt and you had to do P.E with that on but with uniform it is perfect for all subjects for the day.
So I say we should have uniform at P.E.S ( Pt. England school).

My week 9 MoveNote :)

Here is a link to my MoveNote that I have created, I hope you lie it and I hope you can leave some feedback on my blog!
Thankyou :)

Why do we have school ?

Why do we have school?

That is a really good question, We need to have school because of a lot of reasons. like if we did not go to school everyone would be dumb and not learn a lot of thing even easy things such as their 2x tables. School was a very good invention I wonder who made school?
Anyway, did you know we spend 8 hours in school and we learn quite a lot in that time.

People around the world have different sorts of schools and learn a lot of different things that some other schools might not know.  If no one went to school there would be no college and college is where all the excitement begins. You do cooking tech, fashion, sports and you can even study a different language,
Anyway i'm hoping off track.

No school means no education and no education mean no work and no work means no money and you wouldn't of been able to live in a house because no one would have the brains to even think of making a house.
And tat would mean Elbert Einstein wouldn't be smart and famous making money.

So this is why school is important.

Why is it important to have rules in the Class?

Why is it important to have rules in the class?

Rules are important because if you don't have rules things could go terribly wrong.
Such as if you had no rules people would be throwing things.

People could get hurt physically and mentally. Physically because people could have fights and even if your are not involved people could run into you or get angry and take it out on you. Mentally because people could say jokes to you and even though it is a joke it can still hurt a person.

No rules means no work, like if you didn't feel like doing something like maths, reading or writing then you wouldn't have to do it. But the worst thing is if you didn't have to do work and you didn't have to follow rules you would not make it into a good college because no one would want you because you could give them a bad reputation.

Rules occur to everyone, even the Queen and the president also the Prime Minister John Key.
NOW... imaging a world without rules in the classroom or in a school it would be chaos and everyone would be angry making other people angry and more people and it would be going on and people would be stupid not learning things, you would not want to live in a world like that.

Rules don’t have to be in just the classroom it could also be in the street, hall, breeze, hall kitchen even in the toilets... I know you guys would be thinking no in the toilet but yes there are rules everywhere you go. So follow the rules and you would have a better and happier life at school.
