Treaty of Waitangi

The British Queen Victoria sent a man named William Hobson to try to make peace with the Maori  in New Zealand. She sent him to try and convince the Maori chiefs to sign a TREATY or legal agreement. On the 6th of february 1840 in Waitangi in the Bay of Islands 43 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi.

The treaty was trying to solve some of the problems in New Zealand at that time.
One of the problems was The musket Wars, where Maori tribes were fighting one another with guns they had got from the British traders. Another problem was that Immigrants were wanting land. Land sharks, (people who were trying to make lots of money by getting land cheaply then selling it for lots of money) were causing hassles and trouble. The last problem was lawlessness where Europeans were committing crimes making NZ dangerous.

On the day, the 6th of February there were around about 50 chiefs. The day before on February 5th they had spent all day discussing and translating the treaty trying to figure out whether to sign it or not.

The Treaty of Waitangi has got 3 principles. They are Protection (making sure they don’t fight and that there is peace), Partnership (letting everyone contribute to running New Zealand) and Participation (working together)
That helped them to work and get it done.

A problem about the Treaty of Waitangi is the translation. The English version means different things to the Maori version. This is why the Maori say it is a key to show that they agreed certain things, and that should be honoured.

Well some classes are on free time and the others are playing some games with their class mates and their teachers. My class is having free time because we have neetbooks. I love watching people having fun.

My reflection

How has having a netbook connected to the internet helped my learning this year?

  • What special thing have you learnt from your teacher this year?
On my netbook I have been using math whizz, xtra maths and our class site this has tort me my - + x % and my decimals.
  • What significant thing have you learnt all by yourself - maybe online
I have learnt who to speak proper english.
  • What have you learnt from your friend this year
My best friend Keis has helped me with my maths whizz. My friend sarah has helped me at literacy work.
  • What have you learnt from someone outside of your classroom this year (ie not teacher or classmate)
  • My Dad and my mom helped me with some of my work
  • How have you helped other kids learn this year
I have helped some of my classmates with some of my work.
  • How have you grown your key competencies through using digital tools this year
I do not have to go to the teacher for him to mark my work I can go on the class site and      share it with him.

So the lazy turkey woke up and all he was thinking about was his toast. So he went to his kitchen and pull out some bread from the freezer and got the knife, butter and the marmite from the  cupboard and started to make his toast.

Then the Toast Popped (POP) and it was black because it was burnt. He was so sad and he was crying he did not know what to do he panicked and panicked. He was devastated so he got a napkin and put it on a plate and took it to the backyard. After that he berrien it in a hole in the bushes.
